RAF TYPE H OXYGEN MASK, 1946 - WARTIME PATTERN
SOLD
For sale is a scarce, early dated Type H Oxygen Mask. Identical to wartime issue masks, this particular mask is dated 1-46, indicating it was manufactured shortly after the war ended.
As the photos show, the mask is in good condition. The exterior rubber is still extremely supple, with no visible cracking or crazing, and the rubber facepiece itself still retains a good shape. Often these masks are found with significant wear around the anti-suffocation valve, but this masks shows none of the typical 'flaws'. The rubber has darkened with age.
Inside the grey suede lining is soiled, showing wear and tear consummate with age.
The mask is complete with a Type-57 microphone assembly, complete with tan loom and the early pattern box connector. The loom’s rubber retaining sheath is complete and in excellent condition (often these are missing or damaged). The mic operates, but some of the front edges have chipped away and the exterior paint has flaked away in places.
The harness has light soiling, and has lost some of its elasticity. Sadly the right-hand strap (as worn) is missing, though replacements can be found.
Overall this is a great, entry-level mask, with a scarce date code. This mask is identical to wartime issue masks, but at least 1/4 of the price.
