RAF Mark IVB Flying Goggles Battle of Britain

RAF MARK IVB FLYING GOGGLES + FLIPSHIELD - BATTLE OF BRITAIN

SOLD

For sale are a lovely, scarce pair of RAF Mark IVB Flying Goggles, complete with the very rare "screen, antiglare" with the enclosed 'peg-type' bayonet mechanism. 22C/167.

The goggles are in excellent condition, with all of the original paintwork to the frames (these are finished in the more obscure satin-brown finish). The leather nose piece is excellent, as are the original sprung loops and rear strap (which still has lovely, crisp markings). The rear rubber pads have hardened, and one is missing, but this is typical of these goggles and does not detract from how they display.

The lenses are original to the goggles and have been cleaned to remove the inner laminated sections, which had yellowed with age. The result is an exceptionally clean pair of goggles, which display beautifully.

The goggles are complete with their rare, original flipshield (22C/133), with this variation being the iteration more often seen in photos from the Battle of Britain. The screen is in excellent condition and the mechanism still operates perfectly.

Overall a lovely pair of these scarce Battle of Britain flying goggles. These would be hard to upgrade.
